Memorial Hermann Hospital

Memorial Hermann HospitalMemorial Hermann Hospital is the primary teaching site for the program. It is a full service hospital of approximately 465 beds that provides care for a broad based cross section of patients, including approximately 10% charity or non-funded patients. The Women’s and Children’s Tower houses a 36-bed labor-delivery-recovery-postpartum unit and intensive and basic nursery services and other pediatric services. There is an adjacent ward for gynecologic and postoperative patients. This hospital has an active Maternal Fetal Transfer service (> 200 per year) and is the tertiary helicopter transport center for the region. The daily census of antepartum (high risk) patients is usually 10 – 14 patients. The center also has an active Antepartum Testing Unit that sees approximately 50 – 60 patients per week. Inpatient gynecology and day surgery units provide patient care for surgical and nonsurgical gynecology patients; there are two operating rooms dedicated to gynecologic surgery each day.

Lyndon Baines Johnson General Hospital

Lyndon Baines Johnson General HospitalLyndon Baines Johnson General Hospital is a busy county facility staffed by University of Texas Houston faculty that supports a second independent residency program (20 residents). Approximately 500 deliveries are performed each month; the cesarean section rate is between 6 – 10%. The Hermann Hospital program residents rotate on the labor and delivery suite for two months during their PGY-1 year and one month during their PGY-2 year. These rotations provide exposure to a large volume of normal, uncomplicated deliveries for the interns and operative obstetrics for the PGY-2 residents in a population with unique social and medical problems. In addition, the PGY-4 residents spend one month in the Antepartum unit where they do ultrasound, perform amniocentesis and genetic counseling and perform antepartum fetal testing. This unit sees approximately 15 – 20 patients per day.

M.D. Anderson Cancer CenterM.D. Anderson Cancer Center is one of the premier cancer treatment centers in the world and is part of the University of Texas System. Residents gain exposure to management of a wide array of gynecologic malignancies primarily at the PGY-3 level of training.

 

The Woman’s Hospital of Texas

The Woman’s Hospital of Texas is a large, private, acute care hospital. The residents spend three months at this hospital at the PGY-3 level and one month at the PGY-4 level. Residents do, on average, 20 major gynecologic surgeries per month and perform pre and postoperative care for patients with a wide range of procedures, including laparoscopic surgery, infertility surgery and urologic surgery.

 

Memorial Hermann Hospital Southwest

Memorial Hermann Hospital SouthwestMemorial Hermann Hospital Southwest is a large community hospital with approximately 500 beds. Residents spend one month at this site at the PGY--3 level and perform gynecologic surgery, in a large, suburban, multicultural private practice setting.

 

Memorial Hermann Hospital Southeast

Memorial Hermann Hospital SoutheastMemorial Hermann Hospital Southeast is a community based hospital with approximately 175 beds. Residents spend one month at this site at the PGY-3 level and perform gynecologic surgery in a small, pleasant private practice setting.
