Lyndon Baines Johnson General Hospital

Lyndon Baines Johnson General HospitalLyndon Baines Johnson General Hospital is a busy public hospital that is operated by the Harris County Hospital District, providing major medical services to the medically indigent population of the Houston area. While residents from both Program A and B rotate at Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital, it is the main teaching site for Program A. The obstetrical service performs approximately 500 deliveries per month, its Perinatal Testing Center does 10 amniocenteses and 400 ultrasounds per month, the Ob/Gyn referral clinical sees >100 patients per day and the gyn operating room does 900 major cases per year. There is a modern teaching facility with classrooms, computer lab, and high-tech auditorium adjacent to the hospital. UT Ob/Gyn faculty members directly oversee all patient care and have offices within the labor and delivery area. The clinic, operating room, wards and Birthing Center are all on the same floor of the hospital, making a team approach very easy.

Memorial Hermann Hospital

Memorial Hermann HospitalMemorial Hermann Hospital is a full service hospital of approximately 465 beds that provides care for a broad based cross section of patients, including approximately 10% charity or non-funded patients. While residents from both Program A and B rotate at Memorial Hermann Hospital, it is the primary teaching site for program B. There is a new Women’s and Children’s Tower which houses a 36-bed labor-delivery-recovery-postpartum unit and intensive and basic nursery services and other pediatric services. There is an adjacent ward for gynecologic and postoperative patients. This hospital has an active Maternal Fetal Transfer service (> 200 per year) and is the tertiary helicopter transport center for the region. The daily census of antepartum (high risk) patients is usually 10 – 14 patients. The center also has an active Antepartum Testing Unit that sees approximately 50 – 60 patients per week. Inpatient gynecology and day surgery units provide patient care for surgical and nonsurgical gynecology patients; there are two operating rooms dedicated to gynecologic surgery each day.

M.D. Anderson Cancer CenterM.D. Anderson Cancer Center is one of the premier cancer treatment centers in the world and is part of the University of Texas System. Residents gain exposure to management of a wide array of gynecologic malignancies primarily at the PGY-3 level of training.

 

Memorial Hermann Hospital Southwest

Memorial Hermann Hospital SouthwestMemorial Hermann Hospital Southwest is a large community hospital with approximately 500 beds. Residents spend one month at this site at the PGY--3 level and perform gynecologic surgery, in a large, suburban, multicultural private practice setting.

 

The Methodist Hospital of Houston

Memorial Hermann Hospital NorthwestThe Methodist Hospital is a large private hospital located in the Texas Medical Center. The Methodist has been repeatedly recognized by the country as one of the best hospitals in America. Residents in the 3rd and 4th year of training spend one to two months here performing gynecologic surgery.
