The LBJ Difference

How is the UT - LBJ Ob/Gyn Residency different from other residencies?

Continuity of Care:

We do not have separate Ob and Gyn services but have three general Ob/Gyn teams.

The residency operates like a general Ob/Gyn group practice with training wheels.

All patients are assigned to a resident to be their Ob/Gyn and therefore the residents form long-term relationships with their patients.

Decision-making:

The residents are the key decision-makers for most patient problems.

The patient volume is reliably large and so the residents develop confidence and efficiency.

Close Faculty involvement:

The faculty are available in the hospital to support the residents 24/7.

Many of the faculty have offices immediately adjacent to the OR and L&D.

The LBJ faculty do not have private practices to distract them from supporting the residents.

Helping others:

Since the patients at LBJ are medically indigent, the residents have the satisfaction of knowing that they are helping people who might not be able to get care anywhere else.

Fun:

The close collegial atmosphere of the residents, faculty and students make the environment fun.
